This book is not for you, if . . .

1. You are not interested in finding out what God wants you to do with your life. . I mean he might want you to be happy for heaven’s sake! He might want you to stop and smell the roses or start on the path to fulfilling the great dreams in your heart. God’s number one desire is to make you happy. Really. He didn’t die on the cross so you would be unhappy! He came to give you life! Life to the Full. The best way to start is to clean out everything that’s blocking His grace from acting powerfully in your life. The best way to do that? Confession of course.

It may not be a particular story that will be the convincing factor for you but rather the solid witness of story after story that provides the closing argument that you need this Sacrament. This book provides a cloud of witnesses that will convince many. If you have family or friends who are not frequenting this sacrament.... this book is chock full of inspirational stories, motivational tools and practical advice and tips to make the journey back to the heart of God easy and painless.

2. You don’t want to look at mistakes in your life because they are depressing so prefer to ignore them and continue making them in the future. . Nothing beats driving down the road with your eyes closed for real excitement in life.

3. You are not open to advice from anyone – God, Priest, or your mother – maybe not even your spouse! . If you have all the answers – well than, you’re right. Who needs another viewpoint? That just clouds up the landscape. If you give the Holy Spirit a few minutes to talk… who knows what would happen? Scary thought. This book is full of stories of people who did just that. A weak moment when they let their defenses down and God zapped them. A few glimpses of what eternal life could be without God....

4. You believe that you would die if you went to confession. . I have to admit, I can sympathize with this one. Sometimes it does feel like that would be an easier option. But the truth is, other than possibly dying to self (which we are supposed to be doing anyway) very, very few people ever die going to confession.

5. You believe that you are the worst sinner in the world and would shock the priest too much to tell him your sins. . Nope. I already shocked him with my sins, but you can try for the number two spot if you like.

6. You haven’t been to confession in so long it would take days for the priest to hear your confession – you don’t want to waste his time. . A good priest friend of mine said even if you have been away from the church for thirty years – it only takes about ten minutes to get back!

7. You believe that your sins are not really that big, that bad, or that bothersome, best to just continue on with life as is. . Guess what? Without God’s grace you cannot see yourself truthfully. The Master of Deception works overtime with this one. Ever wonder how some people can murder, steal, rape and destroy and still think they aren’t doing anything worse than anyone else?

8.You don’t see any benefit in going to confession other than making one feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. . Who thought this up anyway? Answer. God did. It was God’s idea that we should show ourselves to the priest. It’s there in the Old Testament and the New! Jesus himself said to the disciples (first priests) “Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven – whose sins you retain they are retained.”
